Canada has commonly been identified as a mosaic; celebrating multiple cultures, religions, and ethnicities. Now more than ever, increased numbers of people are immigrating to Canada with their families.
Did you know?
- Windsor is the fourth most diverse population per capita in Canada
- Windsor’s newcomer population as of the 2006 Census was 29.5%, compared to Chatham-Kent with 10.7%, London with 23.1%, Sarnia with 14.7%
- In 2006 the proportion of foreign-born citizens in Windsor was 23%, by 2031 the proportion of foreign-born citizens in Windsor will be 28%
These figure have a huge impact on our community, and how our city can best accomodate the needs of the new Canadians.

How is diversity celebrated in Windsor?
The Carrousel of Nations is one of the most anticipated summer festivals in Windsor Essex. Carrousel by the River festival usually runs over a two week period during the month of June, and is held at Festival Plaza. Thousands enjoy delicious ethnic cuisine from dozens of different local restaurants, great entertainment, and family activities. The festival has become a staple in the community as one that truly celebrates diversity, multiculturalism and ethno-culturalism.
