MYAC sets up subcommittee to prepare Windsor for Entrepreneurship Week Canada - August 4th, 2008 - Written By: Tarini Chandak
If opportunities are lacking around you, often, great solutions come from within and the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee (MYAC) has embraced this concept by participating in Entrepreneurship Week Canada (EWC). Chosen as one of the 25 Canadian host cities by the Impact Entrepreneurship Group, as part of EWC and Global Entrepreneurship Week, the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee will be preparing Windsor to encourage and recognize local youth entrepreneurs. The week of November 17th to November 23rd is Global Entrepreneurship Week and MYAC is excited to work at promoting entrepreneurship as a viable source of employment for young people in the City of Windsor through a weeklong initiative of mentoring, promotion and development.

As part of the open forums in 2006, MYAC found that employment was a major issue to Windsor youth. “With entrepreneurship, youth are provided with many opportunities – both financially and creatively.” Says MYAC co-chair, Prerna Chandak. MYAC has now established a subcommittee, consisting of youth from all parts of the city to develop the programming for the week and garner further support from organisations within the city. If there are youth interested in sitting on this subcommittee, they are encouraged to send an email describing why they want to join and what they have to offer to the subcommittee to pchandak@windsoryouth.com.

The Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee was established as a committee of Council in 2007. The committee consists of youth, aged 14 to 24, who want to make an impact on the community and implement changes, which will positively benefit the lives of youth in Windsor.
