Artist's Walk - August 10th, 2007 - Written By: Aleksandra Cendecki
Imagine a street full of teenagers lined up presenting their artwork, showing Windsor that youth have talent. On August 12th, International Youth Day, the Youth Arts Council, a committee of the Arts Council – Windsor & Region, will host Artists’ Walk on Ouellette Avenue from 1pm to 3pm. The event allows young artists to show off their talents and includes a variety of art including: painting, poetry, music and more.

After hosting Youth Arts Windsor: A discussion forum, the council saw that youth needed to have more opportunities to appreciate the arts and also to showcase their own work. “We have noticed that young artists aren’t given much opportunity outside of school to show their talent,” says Chris Richards, a photographer and member, “Artists’ Walk is just the first of many events we hope to have that allow youth the appreciate each other’s skills.”

On March 1, 2007, the Youth Arts Council was established as a committee of the Arts Council - Windsor & Region (ACWR). The Youth Arts Council consists of youth, aged 12 to 24, who want to make an impact on the community using their talent. For more information, please contact Prerna Chandak, chair of the Youth Arts Council, at pchandak@windsoryouth.com. ACWR was founded in 1979 and is a non-profit organization that enriches the quality of life for all by strengthening the arts and the community through leadership, education and promotion.
